This week, our class is reading a big shared book called Swamp Eggs. It is about a Pukeko who guards her nest from pests and waits for her eggs to hatch.
To help us remember the order of what happened in the story we did a little drama skit as a whole class.
Zoe was our mother Pukeko, who was protecting her 6 eggs.
Next....Came along the big HAWK (Koby) he was trying to get into the nest, but Pukeko (Zoe) told him to "Go away, and leave the nest alone."
After that, Slithering Snake (Bob) came along he was going to try and get to the eggs in the nest, but Pukeko (Zoe) told him to go away!
The next animal that came along was the sneaky cat (Arna) She wanted to try and get to the eggs in the nest but Pukeko (Zoe) told her to go away too!
At the end, the eggs hatched and Mother Pukeko (Zoe) told her chicks to follow her quickly and quietly before the pests came to find the chicks. They all listened to Mother Pukeko and everyone was safe.
